Responsible investment is part of investment quality.
In critical materials, environmental and social performance, safety, governance, permitting, community support, supply-chain integrity and closure readiness can materially affect project timelines, capital requirements and long-term value. ACM intends to assess these factors throughout investment selection, due diligence, ownership and exit.
Environmental Stewardship
Assessing water and energy use, emissions, waste and tailings, biodiversity, rehabilitation obligations, closure planning and other material environmental liabilities.
Health & Safety
Reviewing workforce and contractor safety, labour conditions, management systems and material human-rights risks across operations.
Communities & Stakeholders
Understanding community and stakeholder relationships, land impacts, local participation, grievance mechanisms and the conditions required for a durable social licence to operate.
Governance & Integrity
Evaluating ownership, board and management quality, anti-bribery and corruption controls, sanctions exposure, compliance, transparency and business integrity.
Supply-Chain Responsibility
Assessing provenance, traceability, supplier practices and heightened risks in conflict-affected or high-risk mineral supply chains.
Long-Term Resilience
Testing permitting, closure liabilities, physical and climate risks, geopolitical exposure, customer requirements and the ability to operate through changing market conditions.
From screening to exit.
The intended approach is to identify material risks early, test them rigorously before investment, and then use governance and active ownership to track improvement and protect long-term value.
Screening
Identify material environmental, social, governance, geopolitical and supply-chain risks, including issues that may make an opportunity unsuitable for investment.
Due diligence
Integrate technical, legal, environmental and social diligence, using specialist advisers where appropriate and translating material findings into investment decisions and action plans.
Ownership
Use governance rights, management engagement, relevant KPIs and incident monitoring to follow material issues and support operational improvement over the holding period.
Exit & reporting
Document material performance and unresolved risks, support continuity of responsible practices through ownership transition, and report appropriately to investors.
As ACM formalises its policy, relevant reference points are expected to include the IFC Performance Standards, the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas, and other applicable responsible-mining and investment standards. The exact framework and scope will depend on asset type, jurisdiction and investment structure.
Better-managed assets are more resilient assets.
Responsible operating practices can support permitting, workforce performance, community relationships, customer access, financing and long-term asset durability. For ACM, these considerations belong in investment analysis and active ownership rather than being treated as a separate reporting exercise.
A framework to be formally adopted.
The principles above describe ACM's intended responsible-investment approach. As the platform's formal policies, governance processes and reporting framework are approved, ACM intends to incorporate the relevant requirements into diligence, investment documentation, portfolio monitoring and reporting, and to adopt or align with appropriate international frameworks where applicable. Until that process is complete, this page should be read as the direction of travel rather than a claim of formal certification, signatory status or compliance.
